Mull It Over 030: The Single File
It's the first Friday of the month, so here's ten essential releases from Northern Ireland to soundtrack your weekend. Featuring Noah Wu and Arvo Party.
Welcome to the THIRTIETH(?!) issue of Mull It Over. Things are truly flying now with the radio show, actual merchandise and a fancy new Instagram page, which is fast becoming a handy dumping ground for the results of me dicking about in Preview on my MacBook.
Last week was the re-launch of the Cool Gig Guide, which you can find below.
For anyone new to the newsletter, The Single File is a feature where on the first Friday of each month (it originally tied in with Bandcamp Fridays) I collate ten of the most exciting new releases to come out of Northern Ireland in the last month. Simple. However, when Bandcamp Fridays became more sparse I decided to keep the feature going out of pure spite. Really though, it is one of the most rewarding parts of writing this newsletter; I get to discover a lot more new music from Northern Ireland than I would normally and that is my goal for you too, dear reader. People have asked me how I find these songs and albums and while it was true that the first few editions of TSF featured artists I was already a fan of, I now get to actively seek out new music from all over the region. This is now officially a devolved matter, if you will. If you find something you love, or your new favourite band along the way, then fabulous! I’m doing my job. Similarly, if you are an artist who would like to feature on upcoming issues of The Single File - then get in touch via the aforementioned fancy new Instagram page. I’d love to hear from you.
‘Get the Belfast look’ - Kate Moss, probably
And So I Watch You From Afar - Years Ago
PTRNS - Magnolia
how r u - moot
Arvo Party - to evening
Lucy Gaffney - lovestruck
Klyda - Let Down
Noah Wu - THE STATIC
Ciaran Lavery - Heart Malaise
GUSH - Exposure Therapy
VERA - Reasons
Thank you for reading this latest issue. It is astonishing to me that we are at number thirty. Again, I must thank all of the current and new subscribers. I appreciate you sticking with me, let’s keep it up! It is a story of firsts this week with the debut album by how r u proving to be one of my favourites of the year already and the first ever single from PTRNS on repeat in my household. Give the former a spin when evening turns into night this weekend and you’re in your garden sipping on your wine or sparkling water. Beautiful stuff. As always, you can check out every other artist to be featured on Mull It Over on the playlist below.
