Hello and welcome to the revamped Mull It Over Cool Gig Guide. After a break last month to focus on everything Stendhal I am back with another expertly curated list of the coolest gigs happening in and around Belfast, this time during the month of August. What makes this an expert list, you ask? Well, take it from somebody who has seen Backstreet Boys live three times and McBusted once - I know a cool gig when I see one.
August is shaping up to be a bumper month for the local scene with a myriad of E.P. and single launch parties taking place in Belfast as well as the return of the Hilden Beer & Music Festival down in Lisburn. Sound of the Shore’s late Summer all day-er is back in its usual slot at the tail end of August and back in sunny Belfast The Black Box hosts a night of ‘Open Decks’ for early career and aspiring DJs. If none of that tickles your fancy, why not check out Belfast rave collective Plain Sailing’s residency in Lavery’s Shipyard, this month featuring Free The Night champion Holly Lester. And if that wasn’t enough to drag you away from The Bear Season 3, then how about the return of GAZEFEST - a celebration of hazy and fuzzy sounds form the very best of Belfast’s shoegaze cohort, featuring Hot Press cover star and slowcore-influenced sign crushes motorist alongside mainstays Virgins and Wynona Bleach, who return for round two after the rousing success of last year’s event.
I would just like to front load the housekeeping this week as I have my doubts about who will actually make it to the end of this huge list (do it, I dare you). Some things to note in the world of Mull It Over -
