Mull It Over 022: Cool Gig Guide - June '24
Your guide to the coolest gigs happening in Belfast and beyond for June 2024. Featuring Dea Matrona and BICEP.
“… three words went through my mind endlessly, repeating themselves like a broken record: you're so cool, you're so cool, you're so cool.”
Good Morning and welcome back to the Mull It Over Cool Gig Guide, where each month I bring you a curated list of gigs taking place in and around Belfast. Think about it like those emails that Spotify sends out about a show you might be interested in but for some reason is in Edinburgh or London. The Cool Gig Guide comes with the patented Mull It Over guarantee that you will not have to fly anywhere to get to these shows. Due to the nature of things in Northern Ireland, most of these gigs are taking place in Belfast, but I’m endeavouring to include more of our ‘satellite’ states. Like Bangor, or Whitehead.
This is the guide for June, and we are well and truly into festival season now, as seen by some of the inclusions on the listings below. Whether you fancy dancing the night, morning, next night and next morning away in your Nike Air Maxes or something a little more slow paced and family friendly on the shores of Lough Neagh, or if you just want to head out and see what’s happening on the scene with some up and coming bands, the Cool Gig Guide has you covered. Every month, this is what you get. Again, you should be paying for this.
I hope to be attending some of the summer offerings from the recent gig guides, so please subscribe to the newsletter if you want to get a flavour of what’s going down. I’m not a fan of traditional reviews, so you can expect some pure Gonzo journalism. With a baby in tow. If that sounds absolutely awful to you, subscribe anyway.
Your music pairing last month was Gwen Stefani’s shimmering Cool. This month, I’d like to thank my little sister for bringing power pop legends Squeeze back into my life.

Thank you for reading this week’s Mull It Over. Summer is always a busy time for releases and gigs so there’s plenty of good stuff in the pipeline. As mentioned, expect some field reports on some of these shows coming up in the next few issues. I’m currently pulling together the next radio show which will air on Belfast Built Digital Radio sometime in June. It’s going to be a good one. I’ll be announcing that soon.
As always, have a great weekend everyone. Happy Friday. Buy some tickets.
